Carol's Comments: We always use our history ditties as a finishing cap stone to our studies of different events and periods. The year is always included and some useful facts worth remembering.  There are several things of value in this small group of words. It showcases the dangers in a single crop economy as well as a diet. But it's also worth noting that a potato has Vitamin C and can prevent scurvy. You could do an off-shoot science study on blights, their causes and remedies. Lastly, this can be a great launching point for an additional study on immigration.
