An evil called witchcraft in Salem did brew,
And soon 19 said, "Ach, they've hung us!"

Carol's Comments: There is a great misconception that the witch trials in America resulted in people being executed by the hundreds. While 19 hung is 19 too many, it is still worth seeing history in true perspective. What is most fascinating about this period is the quiet hysteria that led to the witch trials in the first place. A great piece of historical fiction to use in conjunction with a study of this time period is called A Break with Charity by Ann Rinaldi.)
